Odissi is the classical indian dance, the oldest world dance.
Comes from eatern India, from Orissa State, particulary from the city of Puri and the temple of Lord Jagannatha, the center of this city.
Odissi was performed in the temples by deva dasi dancers localy called maharis.
Male dancers called gotipua were performing for the larger public during religious festivals.
At the present moment Odissi is performed on the occassion of traditional and religious festivals and on the stages of the whole world.
Definitely this is dance style with rich history, tradition and its beauty is beyond compare to anything in this world.
